YOUR MISSIONS

 

We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Payroll Assistant to join our payroll and HR operations team on a part-time basis  (22.5 hours per week over 4 days) . This role sits within a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) environment, supporting payroll services for multiple client organisations.

The role is based out of our Southampton office - we will also consider fully remote applications for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run and support day-to-day processing of client payrolls in line with agreed schedules and SLAs
  • Prepare, validate, and check payroll input data (starters, leavers, salary changes, absences, pensions, and statutory payments.
  • Assist with payroll reconciliation and post-payroll checks
  • Respond to payroll queries from internal teams and clients in a timely and professional manner
  • Manage and support different types of pension schemes, ensuring accurate deductions, employer contributions and compliance with auto-enrolment requirements.
  • Support compliance with statutory payroll requirements (e.g. SSP, SMP, pensions, PAYE)
  • Liaise with HR teams, and finance contacts
  • Liaise directly with HMRC regarding payroll queries, submissions and reconciliations
  • Support year-end processes, payroll reporting and audits as required.
  • Work closely with the Payroll Manager to meet payroll deadlines and contribute to continuous improvement of payroll processes and controls.

 

Systems & Tools

You will work with a range of payroll and HR systems depending on client requirements.

Experience with the following is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided:

  • Dayforce
  • SAP
  • Workday

 

 

  • Location: Southampton or fully remote considered
  • Working Pattern: Part-time – 22.5 hours per week over 4 days
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Salary: £16.5k–£19.2k pro rata (FTE £27.5k - £32K) 

 

 

YOUR PROFILE

 

Essential:

  • Proven experience in a payroll role with strong knowledge of UK payroll and tax calculations.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good understanding of payroll principles and confidentiality
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Confident communicator with a professional, client-focused approach
  • Comfortable working with systems and data
  • Good organisational and time management skills

 

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a multi-client or outsourced payroll environment
  • Exposure to Dayforce, SAP, and/or Workday
  • Payroll qualification (e.g. CIPP) or working towards one
